I always loved the arts and dreamed of having the opportunity to take some painting classes. Well, retirement offered me the chance to discover new passions. After I spent a few months wondering what to do with my life, I finally dared to pursue my dream and become a painter.
My husband couldn’t believe that I was really starting to take my dream seriously. He used to make fun of me. But guess what? My silly little dream became a serious source of income in our household. I basically developed a small business and started to sell my work. All I can say is that my friends are my biggest supporters, and they were the ones who highly influenced my journey. Their homes are full of my work, and I couldn’t be happier.

6 In-Demand Jobs for Retirees
Before we get into the list, I would like you to know that a big part of these jobs don’t require a degree. So, trust me, you’ll definitely find something that fits your experience and lifestyle. Are you ready to rediscover yourself?
1. Customer service representative
In a world of chaos and technology, this job is one of the most affected when it comes to artificial intelligence. However, employees are still needed. No one really likes to listen to that annoying robot voice, and most of the customers are asking to speak to an agent. So, real humans are still important in the customer service representative role.
Did you know that nearly 3 million people work as customer service representatives? Yes, you read that right. I was surprised too. The BLS data recently shared this impressive number, and all I can say is that we should benefit from the situation.
A great advantage is the flexible program and the working from home option. If you’re looking for a remote position, you’ll definitely need to check out this type of job.
2. Data entry clerk
As you already know, businesses tend to cut back on their need for data entry clerks. Instead, they have their customers and clients fill out surveys and other forms directly online. But don’t underestimate the power of paper forms; those are still plentiful, which means there continues to be demand for data entry in clerks.
This job is perfect for you, especially if you have good typing skills. You also need a good eye for accuracy. If you have what it takes, you’ll definitely be the right person for this type of job.
3. Home health aide
Even though this job can be extremely overwhelming, it might be a good option, especially if you have experience as a family caregiver. If you have a bit of experience, you surely have many of the skills this job requires. So, you don’t need to worry.
Experts say that this job is perfect for the future. There are more and more seniors who need support in their golden years. Helping others can be very satisfying and will make you feel like an angel. Ha, ha. I’m joking. But seriously, if you can offer some help to vulnerable persons in need, you should definitely go for it!
Oh, and this specific position is very well paid, too.
4. Nanny
Considering all the chaos, a lot of young moms need help with their kids. There are a lot of challenges they face daily, so having someone to rely on it’s extremely important for them. It’s not easy at all to find someone you can trust, so if you have experience with children, you should definitely benefit from it.
Just like everyone else, nannies have also adjusted to the new type of life. So, they usually need to take care of kids while their parents are still at home. Some of the most difficult tasks included keeping the little ones quiet while mom and dad are trying to concentrate on their online meetings.

5. Education
If you have a career in the field of education, this could be the right match for you. According to the BLS data, in 2023, there were about 935,000 older workers in this field. But don’t get me wrong! You can also apply for this type of job even though you don’t have a degree in education.
There are a lot of opportunities, and you can explore ways to advance your skills and receive certifications. It’s not difficult at all! You just need the courage to start.
Ah, and you should also know that some jobs include training sessions as part of the onboarding process, which is a great advantage. Also, don’t forget about the salaries. Elementary and middle school teachers earn about $70,000 a year.
6. Selling homemade goods
This is by far one of my favorite jobs. Since I started my small business, I have become happier. I didn’t know how a simple hobby could make me feel. So, if you are a creative person, make sure to take into consideration an online business that can be both fun and lucrative.
The best part about this job is that there are no limits when it comes to earnings. So, it really depends on how much you work and the success you have. Even though it might seem impossible to build a successful business by yourself, all you need to do is trust in yourself. There’s nothing you can’t do!
For example, since my paintings had success, I became more courageous and look at me! I’m writing about my experiences and love to help people in need of advice. I love that we created a beautiful community where everyone feels safe and understood.
